Hard frost=do something besides harvesting #horsepower

Ok, for real. Definitely last florist delivery. 100% hard frost tonight. At least until next week 😉

We hacked back some of our greenhouse dahlias after a big July flush. Some varieties didn’t like this while others appear to love it. These cute nuggets are the latter✨✨✨

We went for a fam walk tonight after a very long couple days and very long and amazing growing season. We started to cover dahlia beds and other crops with row cover but decided to continue a family jaunt around the farm instead. Letting go is hard but boy does it feel good. #goodbyeflowers

Apparently the dahlias noticed the freezing temps in the forecast and have kicked into high gear, so we’ll have a few for sale @rutlandfarmersmarket tomorrow. This will be the last of the dahlias of the season so come on down!

Starting to feel a little sad at the thought of this week possibly being our last florist route delivery of the season 😭 Going to miss connecting with all the floral designers every Wednesday and getting inspired by their creative genius. Depending on what this cold weather does this weekend we may be on the road again, but if not, we can’t thank all of you enough for your overwhelming support this growing season!!! #farmtoflorist

Cutting on our third succession of gomphrena before what might be our first frost tonight 😬. Although a nice killing frost sounds appealing this time of year, orders still have to be filled and therefore we’ll prob be out tonight trying to cover all we can. 8 years ago on this date we were living an hour out of town on a small ranch in AZ, milking cows by hand, selling salad greens at our first farmers market, barely above the legal drinking age, two year old in tow, getting ready to move across the country with no clear intention except to continue a career in agriculture, and getting married in the national forest under farmers market tents. No regrets. #anniversary
